Steel price in the market on March 10, 2025

Mar 11, 2025

Threaded steel: On March 10th, the average price of 20mm Grade III seismic resistant threaded steel in 31 major cities across the country was 3380 yuan/ton, a decrease of 22 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. On the one hand, thread production has continued to rise recently, and supply pressure is gradually increasing; On the other hand, raw materials such as iron ore and coke continue to decline, and the center of gravity of steel costs continues to shift downwards, which weakens the support for steel prices.

Hot rolled coils: On March 10th, the average price of 4.75mm hot rolled coils in 24 major cities across the country was 3414 yuan/ton, a decrease of 14 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. Terminal demand is slowly recovering, while supply is gradually being released. Due to the decline in costs, overall profit performance is good, and the overall resumption of production is gradually recovering. However, due to the overall sentiment of overseas markets, prices have slightly decreased to some extent, and most of the market is still observing.

Cold rolled coils: On March 10th, the average price of 1.0mm cold coils in 24 major cities across the country was 4167 yuan/ton, a decrease of 3 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. The current price difference between hot and cold products exceeds the normal level. Despite the profitability of cold rolling, the production enthusiasm of steel mills remains high. However, state-owned steel mills still mainly supply orders to end-users, and the speed of market circulation resource allocation has slowed down. Therefore, the short-term market circulation inventory pressure is relatively small.

Medium thick plate: On March 10th, the average price of 20mm ordinary plate in 24 major cities across the country was 3510 yuan/ton, a decrease of 4 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. Nationwide, demand was slightly better on Monday than last Friday, and some downstream customers are optimistic about the future market and plan to purchase and replenish inventory this week. On the supply side, the number of steel mills undergoing maintenance for medium and thick plates increased in March, and it is expected that production will continue to decline this week, showing a weak balance in fundamentals.
